The U.S. Treasury Department announced on Wednesday a new round of sanctions targeting five individuals and 10 entities linked to Iran, as part of Washington’s efforts to tighten economic restrictions on Tehran.
According to the list published on the department’s official website, the sanctions target Russian citizen Alisher Domologanov, who was born in Tajikistan, along with four Indian nationals. Ten companies based in India, Singapore and Turkey were also added to the sanctions list.
Network Accused of Facilitating Iranian Oil Shipments
The Treasury Department said the measures target a network led by Sunil Kumar Sharma, who is based in India, and his wife, along with two other Indian nationals who operate companies affiliated with the couple, as well as nine additional entities linked to Sharma.
The department added that the network provided false flags and forged certificates for sanctioned vessels involved in transporting Iranian oil, including ships operating on behalf of the Iranian military and its affiliated entities.
Turkish Company Also Sanctioned
The U.S. Treasury Department also imposed sanctions on Fugo Group Services, a Turkey-based company, over what it described as the company’s continued support for Iran’s sanctioned aviation sector.
