US President Donald Trump said Thursday that he believes the war with Iran could end soon, adding that Tehran may not be able to continue the conflict for much longer.
“I think it’s going to end pretty soon. I don’t think they can go much longer,” Trump told reporters at the Oval Office, referring to Iran.
Trump also acknowledged that the US military has faced challenges regarding supplies of some types of weapons during the conflict. When asked about ammunition and missile stockpiles, he said the United States has an almost unlimited supply of certain powerful weapons, while the availability of others is more limited.
“We have certain types of munitions that are very powerful, that we have unlimited, virtual unlimited supply. We have others where it’s a little bit tighter,” Trump said.
The comments came after reports that the US Army had used a significant portion of its global stockpile of highly accurate long-range missiles during the five-month war with Iran.
Trump added that US defense companies are expanding production capacity, including facilities manufacturing Patriot air defense systems and Tomahawk cruise missiles, in an effort to increase weapons supplies.
