Poland Moves to Strengthen US Military Presence
On June 3, Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz formally presented a proposal to US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to establish a permanent American military base on Polish territory.
In early September, a US delegation visited Poland to inspect potential locations for the proposed military installation.
US President Donald Trump announced on September 17 that “significant progress” had been made in negotiations over the project, although no final decision to begin construction had been announced.
Poland is seeking to strengthen its defense cooperation with the United States amid growing attention to the security of NATO’s eastern flank and broader security developments in Europe.
