Yemeni forces announced that they had carried out 1,122 strikes against positions belonging to the Houthi movement within hours, following the launch of a broad military operation aimed at restoring state territory and areas under Houthi control.
Yemeni forces spokesman Majed Al-Nazili said in a statement on Monday that the operations targeted artillery positions and rocket launchers, defensive fortifications, approach and reinforcement routes, supply lines and logistical assets, as well as combat reinforcements and gatherings, governing bodies, and Houthi command-and-control centers.
He said the strikes targeted multiple fronts in Saada, Al-Jawf, Taiz, and coastal areas, adding that the operations involved warplanes, drones, artillery, missiles, rocket launchers, and snipers.
According to the field tally announced by the spokesman, the operations resulted in the deaths of 1,747 Houthi fighters and the destruction of 364 vehicles, pieces of equipment, and military transport and supply assets.
Al-Nazili said the armed forces would continue carrying out their missions as part of what he described as a campaign to liberate and restore state territory and institutions.
Yemeni President Rashad Al-Alimi had announced on Sunday the launch of a military operation to retake territories controlled by the Houthis.
The announcement came after an escalation in Houthi attacks against Yemeni forces over the past month, along with advances toward the Red Sea coast and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a vital corridor for commercial shipping and oil tankers.
Fighting resumed in Yemen in July after years of relative calm and the collapse of a 2022 truce between the Houthis and the Yemeni government, amid the widening conflict in the Middle East between Iran and the United States.
