Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani will travel to Tehran on Thursday for talks with a number of Iranian officials on the latest regional developments.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majed Mohammed Al Ansari, said the visit aims to explore ways to reduce tensions and create conditions conducive to resuming dialogue, amid continued tensions between the United States and Iran.
Al Ansari said the visit reflects Qatar’s position that diplomacy should remain the preferred means of resolving disputes, helping strengthen security and stability across the region.
The talks in Tehran are also expected to address freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the need to restore maritime traffic to the level seen before February 28.
Doha has continued its diplomatic efforts with various parties involved in the U.S.-Iran tensions, seeking to encourage the sides to return to negotiations and prevent further escalation.
The Qatari foreign minister’s visit to Tehran comes as part of Qatar’s broader diplomatic efforts to help ease regional tensions and promote political solutions aimed at maintaining stability and ensuring the continued flow of international maritime traffic.
