Israel will continue strengthening its support for Ethiopia to help the country develop its economy and establish itself as a leading economic power in Africa, Israeli Ambassador to Ethiopia Abraham Ngosi said.
In remarks reported by the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) on Friday, Ngosi said relations between Ethiopia and Israel are rooted in deep historical, cultural and religious ties.
He added that cooperation between the two countries could help Ethiopia strengthen its self-reliance, safeguard its sovereignty and support sustainable economic growth.
Technology and Investment at the Heart of Cooperation
The Israeli ambassador said his country is working to strengthen Ethiopia’s economic capabilities, particularly in the technology sector, while promoting innovation to increase productivity and support the development of various areas of the economy.
Ngosi said bilateral relations are built around four main pillars, including cooperation and mutual support in international forums based on shared interests, stronger government-to-government cooperation, and expanded private-sector investment.
He revealed that more than 100 Israeli investors are currently active in Ethiopia, working in sectors including agriculture, technology and healthcare.
Ngosi also highlighted the contribution of Israeli healthcare institutions, which he said have provided free medical services to local communities.
70 Years of Diplomatic Relations
The ambassador noted that the two countries are marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year, describing the milestone as a reflection of the longstanding historical ties between Ethiopia and Israel.
He pointed to similarities between the two countries, including the use of distinctive calendars and celebrating the New Year on the same day.
Ngosi expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation would continue to expand in the coming years, particularly as ties between younger generations in both countries grow.
Air Links Boost Trade and Tourism
Ngosi also highlighted the role of Ethiopian Airlines flights between Addis Ababa and Tel Aviv in promoting trade and tourism, as well as strengthening cultural exchanges and people-to-people connections between the two countries.
He said the continued development of these links could further contribute to closer economic and cultural relations between Ethiopia and Israel.
