Iraqi security forces carried out an airstrike targeting a site belonging to ISIS in Diyala province, eastern Iraq, destroying the location completely, according to Iraq’s Security Media Cell.
The cell said Iraqi Air Force F-16 fighter jets carried out the precision strike using two missiles against an ISIS hideout in the Nareen (Al-Qati’a) area, within the Diyala operations sector.
The strike completely destroyed the hideout after it had been identified and monitored based on what Iraqi authorities described as precise intelligence.
The Security Media Cell said the operation was part of preemptive efforts to pursue ISIS elements and eliminate the remnants of its cells, based on intelligence provided by the Military Intelligence Directorate.
It added that the target was monitored in coordination with the Air Reconnaissance and Surveillance Center at the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces before the airstrike was carried out.
Iraq Continues Operations Against ISIS Cells
The Security Media Cell stressed that Iraqi armed forces are continuing preemptive operations against remnants of terrorist organizations, with the aim of preventing them from regrouping or carrying out attacks inside the country.
It said Iraqi forces will continue pursuing militant elements and clearing areas of any remaining ISIS presence, stressing that security forces will not allow armed groups to establish safe havens on Iraqi territory.
