Yemen’s Houthi movement, also known as Ansar Allah, announced early Sunday that it had carried out a military operation targeting the Sharurah area in Saudi Arabia, using a large number of missiles and drones.
Brigadier General Yahya Saree, spokesman for the group’s armed forces, said in a statement that the operation was carried out in response to what he described as the “continued Saudi aggression against Yemen.”
According to the Houthi account, the attack targeted weapons depots and command-and-control rooms inside a military base in the Sharurah area, which the group said was being used to coordinate military operations against Yemen.
The statement said the operation involved a large salvo of ballistic missiles and drones, claiming that the attacks achieved direct and precise hits. No independent confirmation of the claims was immediately available.
Houthi Projectile Reported in Jazan
The developments came after Saudi Civil Defense announced late Saturday that its teams had received a report concerning a projectile launched by the Houthis that landed in Al-Tuwal Governorate in the Jazan region.
Meanwhile, the Government Information Center in Yemen’s Taiz province said Saturday that aircraft belonging to the internationally recognized Yemeni government had carried out airstrikes against Houthi-controlled areas, including positions along the western Red Sea coast and near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
The latest developments come amid continued military escalation between the warring parties in Yemen, with both sides exchanging attacks and strikes in recent weeks.
