The United States is preparing to deploy a substantial military force to the Middle East in the coming weeks, including a possible deployment of up to three aircraft carriers, escort warships, thousands of troops and scores of fighter jets, as tensions with Iran continue to escalate.
The planned buildup could involve approximately 20,000 additional troops and as many as 150 fighter aircraft, along with destroyers equipped to conduct military operations and intercept missile threats, according to U.S. officials.
The deployment is intended to provide President Donald Trump and U.S. military commanders with greater flexibility to respond to developments across the region. However, officials have indicated that reinforcing American forces does not necessarily signal a final decision to expand military operations.
Washington is also weighing the deployment of a third aircraft carrier strike group and additional Marine Corps vessels as part of broader efforts to strengthen its deterrence capabilities and maintain the ability to respond rapidly to emerging threats. The preparations come as Trump has raised the possibility of intensifying strikes against Iran following the U.S. midterm elections.
U.S. assessments suggest that the additional warships, fighter aircraft, Marines and sailors could reach the region by the end of November.
The planned military buildup follows Trump’s threats to launch a major strike against Iran if investigations establish that Tehran was involved in the incident concerning a Flydubai aircraft traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. Authorities have not yet announced evidence confirming any Iranian connection to the incident.
