
Arab countries have issued widespread condemnations of an attack attributed to the Houthi group that targeted a power station supplying the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, stressing their rejection of any threat to Islamic holy sites and expressing solidarity with Saudi Arabia in protecting its security and stability.
Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi condemned the attack on the electricity facility, describing it as a provocation to Muslims and a violation of the sanctity of Islamic holy sites. He warned against repeated attempts to target the two holy mosques and surrounding areas.
Al-Budaiwi said the attack reflected what he described as a hostile approach that disregards religious and humanitarian values and fails to respect international laws and norms.
The United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the attack, reaffirming its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures taken by the kingdom to safeguard its security and stability.
Kuwait also condemned the attack, describing it as a violation of Saudi sovereignty and a provocation to Muslims, while Bahrain expressed its rejection of the attack on the facility supplying electricity to the Prophet’s Mosque.
Jordan likewise condemned the incident, saying it constituted a violation of Saudi sovereignty and a threat to its security, stability and territorial integrity, as well as a breach of international law and the United Nations Charter.
The Jordanian Foreign Ministry reaffirmed the Hashemite Kingdom’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for measures taken to protect the kingdom’s security, stability and resources, as well as the safety of its citizens and residents.
Qatar strongly condemned the targeting of the power station, describing it as an attack on the sanctity of Islamic holy sites and a provocation to Muslims. Doha also characterized the incident as a violation of Saudi sovereignty, a breach of international law and an unacceptable disregard for civilian lives.
Egypt also strongly condemned the attack, expressing its rejection of continued attacks and attempts aimed at undermining Saudi Arabia’s security and stability.
Cairo warned that continued escalation could further intensify tensions across the region and stressed its categorical rejection of any attempts to undermine Saudi security or violate its sovereignty.
Egypt reaffirmed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its efforts to protect its security and stability, emphasizing that the kingdom’s security is an integral part of Arab national security and is closely linked to Egypt’s national security.
