A US Air Force F-16 fighter jet based at Spangdahlem Air Base in western Germany crashed on Tuesday, with the pilot surviving after ejecting from the aircraft and being taken for medical treatment.
Emergency response teams arrived at the crash site as an investigation was launched to determine the cause and circumstances of the incident.
According to the US military, the aircraft was returning to Spangdahlem Air Base after taking part in a routine training mission as part of a formation of four F-16 fighter jets.
The other three aircraft diverted to Ramstein Air Base, where they landed safely.
No further details have been released about the circumstances of the crash or the pilot’s medical condition.
