The United Arab Emirates has suspended all trade and commercial exchanges with Iran, including financial transactions, Abu Dhabi announced late Tuesday amid escalating regional tensions.
Afra Al Hameli, spokeswoman for the UAE Foreign Ministry, said in a statement posted on X that the decision comes in response to developments that threaten regional and international peace and security.
The UAE rejected what it described as allegations concerning the nature of its economic relationship with Iran, while reiterating its support for dialogue, cooperation and regional integration as a means of promoting peace, stability and prosperity.
“Given the regional escalations that undermine regional and international peace and security, all trade, commercial exchanges, and financial transactions with Iran have been halted until further notice,” Al Hameli said.
She also stressed that the UAE remains committed to protecting the integrity of the international financial system and ensuring that its financial activities comply with international law and the highest global standards.
The suspension marks a significant development in economic ties between the UAE and Iran, which have maintained substantial commercial links despite broader regional tensions.
