Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry on Saturday reaffirmed the Kingdom’s determination to protect its security and sovereignty, while welcoming a United Nations Security Council statement condemning Houthi missile attacks against the country.
In a statement, the ministry said Saudi Arabia welcomed the Security Council’s August 7 statement, which condemned Houthi missile attacks against the Kingdom since July 13, as well as attacks targeting commercial vessels since July 22.
The Kingdom also welcomed the Security Council’s reaffirmation of the need to comply with international law and relevant UN resolutions, while respecting Yemen’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
Saudi Arabia called on the international community to “fulfill its responsibilities” by implementing relevant Security Council resolutions and taking a firm position against practices and violations that threaten regional security and stability, maritime navigation and international trade.
The Kingdom also stressed that such actions undermine efforts to achieve peace in Yemen and the wider region.
“Saudi Arabia reaffirms its determination to safeguard its security and sovereignty, as well as its right to defend itself, its citizens, its resources and its facilities against any attack targeting them,” the ministry said.
The statement also reaffirmed Riyadh’s support for the “legitimate Yemeni government” and for the efforts of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen to achieve peace, security and stability in Yemen and the wider region, while ensuring the safety of maritime navigation.
