North Korea’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday criticized South Korea’s plans to develop nuclear-powered submarines, warning that the move could further destabilize the Korean Peninsula and the wider region.
In a statement carried by state-run KCNA, the ministry said Pyongyang must maintain the ability to respond to military actions by its adversaries with retaliatory strikes capable of threatening their survival.
The latest warning comes amid rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula, as Seoul and Washington prepare for joint military exercises that North Korea has repeatedly condemned.
