Yemen’s armed forces said Wednesday that the Iran-backed Houthi militia had renewed attacks on the strategic port of Mokha, firing two ballistic missiles at the facility amid escalating tensions across the country.
A Yemeni military source said the missiles struck the port’s quay, although no details were immediately provided on casualties or the full extent of the damage.
The city also witnessed intense aerial activity following a series of drone and missile attacks targeting the port and nearby residential areas.
Meanwhile, Yemen’s cabinet met Tuesday in the interim capital Aden to assess the repercussions of the latest Houthi escalation and its potential impact on the country’s security, economy and humanitarian conditions.
The government reviewed recent Houthi attacks on Mokha port, as well as strikes targeting locations in Hadramout, Marib and Al-Dhalea, in addition to attacks on Saudi Arabia.
The Yemeni government said it would not accept any attempt to impose a new reality by force, as the latest escalation raises concerns over the security of one of the country’s key ports near the Bab al-Mandeb maritime corridor.
