The Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen announced on Friday evening that it had destroyed 136 military targets in areas controlled by the Houthi group, as part of military operations aimed at weakening the group’s military capabilities, with a particular focus on dismantling its ballistic missile network.
Coalition spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki said military operations against the Houthis were continuing, emphasizing that air support for units of the Yemeni armed forces would be maintained around the clock.
Explosions and Airstrikes Reported Across Several Yemeni Provinces
In the capital, Sanaa, local reports indicated that explosions continued inside missile and weapons storage facilities located in mountain tunnels in Nihm District, following airstrikes carried out on Thursday and Friday nights.
Circulating video footage also showed powerful explosions in Bani Hushaysh, east of Sanaa. Reports described intensive airstrikes targeting military sites, weapons depots, and communications networks in the provinces of Sanaa, Al-Bayda, Ibb, Taiz, Hudaydah, and Raymah.
The coalition did not provide full details about the nature of the 136 military targets it said had been destroyed, nor did it disclose the number of casualties resulting from the operations.
Coalition Previously Announced Destruction of 82 Military Targets
The latest announcement comes two days after Major General Turki Al-Maliki said Houthi attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia would not go unanswered. At the time, he announced the destruction of 82 military targets in the provinces of Saada, Hudaydah, Al-Jawf, and Marib.
Al-Maliki explained that the targets struck in those operations included 11 ballistic missile storage facilities in mountainous areas of Saada, as well as command-and-control centers and communications systems.
According to the coalition, the strikes were carried out in response to attacks targeting civilian sites, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and Abha International Airport.
Escalating Clashes Raise Fears of a Wider Conflict
The latest developments reflect an escalation in military operations between the coalition and the Houthi group, as efforts to target the group’s missile systems and military capabilities continue.
The developments have raised concerns about a broader escalation and its potential impact on the security and humanitarian situation in Yemen and the wider region, particularly amid continued airstrikes and reciprocal attacks.
