Three media organizations barred from the White House by U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this month have asked a federal court to block the restrictions while their legal challenge proceeds.
Media Organizations Seek Court Order
The three organizations — CNN, MS NOW and Politico — said the Trump administration had continued enforcing the restrictions in an unexpected and inconsistent manner, despite a judge’s restraining order.
They said the measures included selectively barring CNN from participating in White House press pool coverage.
In a filing submitted to the court, lawyers for the organizations argued that statements and actions by the White House suggested the administration could fully reinstate the restrictions on all three outlets if permitted to do so.
Allegations of Violating Press Freedom
The media organizations asked the court to issue a preliminary injunction suspending the restrictions until the case is resolved, arguing that the measures violate press freedoms protected under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
They also said the continued restrictions could cause irreparable harm, not only to the organizations themselves but also to the public.
New Escalation in Trump’s Dispute with the Media
The legal move comes amid ongoing tensions between the Trump administration and the media during the president’s second term.
In recent months, restrictions and other measures have affected some White House and Pentagon reporters, while several federal lawsuits have been filed. The disputes have fueled legal debate over the administration’s authority, its relationship with the press, and the protections guaranteed by the First Amendment.
