US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that there are currently no negotiations or planned talks with Iran, while insisting that the American naval blockade of Iranian ports remains fully operational.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said: “There are no talks or conversations going on, or scheduled, with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Naval Blockade remains in full force and effect.”
Trump also claimed that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and operational, adding that all naval mines in the strategic waterway had either been removed or detonated.
Trump Raises Claim Over Strait of Hormuz
Earlier Tuesday, Trump shared a map on Truth Social depicting the Strait of Hormuz as “NEW US Territory,” reinforcing his previous threats to assert control over the strategically important waterway.
The US president again raised the possibility of such a move on Monday while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, suggesting that taking control of the strait could be beneficial.
Tensions Continue Over Hormuz
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy chokepoints, with roughly one-fifth of global oil supplies passing through it.
Iran has effectively restricted traffic through the waterway in response to the war launched by the United States and Israel against Tehran in late February.
Trump’s latest statements come amid continued tensions over the status of the strait and conflicting claims regarding the possibility of diplomatic contacts between Washington and Tehran.
