US President Donald Trump has launched a sharp attack on French President Emmanuel Macron, warning of the consequences of immigration policies in France and across Europe. Trump said he had previously advised Macron to close France’s borders to avoid what he described as losing control of the country’s future.
In a post on his Truth Social account, Trump claimed that France was facing serious challenges because of immigration, accusing European politicians of allowing large numbers of migrants to enter without adequately considering the potential impact on their societies.
Trump said he had told Macron during their first meeting years ago: “Close your borders, or that will be the end of France.” He argued that immigration policies threatened the country’s cultural identity.
Trump Calls on Europe to Tighten Immigration Controls
The US president urged European countries to close their borders and tighten immigration restrictions, calling for the removal of people he accused of failing to respect the countries in which they live.
He also criticized left-wing European politicians, accusing them of allowing millions of migrants to enter and warning that such policies threatened Western values. Trump cited incidents of violence and fires in France as examples of what he sees as the risks of continuing the current approach.
In a message to European allies, Trump said the United States stood by Europe despite what he described as its weaknesses and loss of direction. He added that if Europe failed to find its way soon, Washington would have no choice but to leave, without specifying what steps the United States might take.
Trump Renews Criticism of NATO Over Iran
Trump also renewed his criticism of NATO members, accusing them of failing to help the United States when Washington requested support during the war with Iran.
He said the United States had spent hundreds of billions of dollars protecting alliance members but had not received the assistance it requested. According to Trump, the request for help regarding Iran was intended to test the allies’ positions, adding that he would not forget their lack of support.
Trump Links Immigration Debate to US Elections
Trump linked his criticism of France to the US elections scheduled for November 3, 2026, warning that the policies pursued by his Democratic opponents could lead the United States into similar problems, in his view.
He strongly criticized the Democratic Party, accusing it of pursuing policies that threaten American cultural identity and urging voters to reject them in the upcoming elections.
The remarks come amid growing disagreements between Trump and European allies over immigration, the sharing of defense responsibilities, and positions on the war with Iran.
