The US Secret Service announced that a suspect had been arrested and charged after officers discovered him inside a vehicle near the White House with multiple firearms. According to US officials, the man said he had heard voices in his head instructing him to kill President Donald Trump.
The arrest took place Thursday night, after Secret Service officers approached a man they described as «acting suspiciously» inside a parked car, according to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security.
Officials identified the suspect as Ronny Yordrix Guanipa Chrinos. They said he told officers that voices in his head had directed him to travel to the US capital and kill the Republican president.
Stolen vehicle and multiple firearms
Shortly after approaching the suspect, officers discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen. A search revealed three different firearms and dozens of rounds of ammunition inside.
The suspect is described as a Venezuelan migrant who is in the United States illegally. The Department of Homeland Security said he entered the country through Texas in March 2024.
Chrinos has been charged and remains in the custody of the US Marshals Service, according to the statement.
Homeland Security praises Secret Service officers
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin praised the officers involved in the arrest, saying: «Thanks to our brave Secret Service officers, this illegal alien with three firearms in his vehicle was arrested near the White House before he could harm anyone».
The White House declined to comment on the incident, referring inquiries to the Department of Homeland Security and the US Secret Service.
The arrest comes amid a series of cases in which the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies have detained individuals accused of threatening the lives of Trump or members of his family since he returned to office last year.
