The Saudi-led coalition supporting the legitimate government in Yemen said it intercepted a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis toward the city of Khamis Mushait in southwestern Saudi Arabia, along with two drones targeting the Riyadh region.
Coalition spokesperson Turki Al-Malki said Saudi air defenses destroyed the ballistic missile and intercepted the two drones launched toward the Saudi capital.
The developments followed drone attacks targeting several areas of Saudi Arabia, including Taif Governorate, where the interception of one drone resulted in falling debris that caused material damage to a building.
Gulf Cooperation Council Condemns Houthi Attacks
Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi condemned the attacks targeting Riyadh and Khamis Mushait with ballistic missiles and drones.
Albudaiwi described the attacks as a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to regional security, saying that targeting Saudi cities constitutes a violation of the kingdom’s sovereignty and poses a threat to the safety of civilians and regional stability.
He reaffirmed the GCC countries’ solidarity with Saudi Arabia and their support for measures taken to protect its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Albudaiwi also called on the international community to take a firm position against repeated Houthi attacks and to hold those responsible accountable.
The developments come amid continued escalation involving attacks across the region, alongside regional efforts to strengthen security and military coordination among neighboring countries.
