Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, is expected to arrive in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Tuesday, according to a Pakistani official and Iranian media reports, as diplomatic efforts continue to ease regional tensions.
Pakistan has played a key role in mediation between the United States and Iran this year, seeking to reach understandings that could help de-escalate tensions and bring the conflict to an end.
The planned visit follows talks Munir held with Iranian officials earlier in the summer. Those discussions focused on preventing a renewed escalation, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and working toward ending the conflict as soon as possible.
No further details have been announced regarding the visit’s agenda or the expected outcomes of the talks.
