North Korea has announced the successful test of a cluster warhead designed for tactical ballistic missiles, in a move aimed at assessing its destructive power and suitability for military use.
The Korean Central News Agency reported that the country’s Missile Administration conducted the test on October 31 to evaluate the performance and destructive capabilities of the cluster warhead developed for tactical ballistic missiles.
The field tests focused on measuring the warhead’s destructive power and its ability to engage targets spread across a wide area.
According to the agency, the standard Type 2 warhead is designed to strike targets across an area ranging from 12 to 13 hectares, potentially strengthening North Korea’s military capabilities, according to Pyongyang.
North Korea has continued to focus on developing tactical ballistic missiles, including short- and medium-range systems, as part of efforts to modernize its missile arsenal and diversify its types of munitions.
The latest test comes amid Pyongyang’s ongoing efforts to advance its military capabilities and strengthen its deterrence systems in response to what it describes as hostile moves.
