Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow is ready to make a constructive contribution to efforts aimed at stabilizing the Strait of Hormuz and the wider Gulf region, as tensions between the United States and Iran continue.
Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, Lavrov said greater trust between the Gulf states, Arab countries and Iran is essential to building a stable regional security framework.
He added that Russia, together with other countries, is prepared to contribute to efforts to stabilize the strategically important region and help reduce tensions.
Lavrov Criticizes Europe’s Position on Russia-Ukraine Talks
In a separate development, Lavrov accused European countries of doing everything they can to obstruct efforts aimed at reviving negotiations to end the conflict between Moscow and Kyiv.
The Russian foreign minister said Europe was seeking to hinder peace talks in which the administration of US President Donald Trump has expressed interest, without providing further details on the measures he was referring to.
