The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) announced the arrest of 95 suspects in an international operation targeting the online distribution of child sexual abuse material, with police agencies from 17 countries across Latin America and Europe taking part.
In a statement released Thursday, Interpol said the operation involved four law enforcement actions carried out between March and September, as well as the execution of 127 search warrants. Participating countries included Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Spain, and Italy.
Stephen Kavanagh, Interpol’s Executive Director of Police Services, said that behind every file involving such material is a child who has suffered abuse and trauma. He warned that the repeated circulation of these images can cause victims to relive that trauma.
He added that authorities must act quickly and coordinate their efforts wherever offenders operate.
According to Interpol, the arrested suspects came from 17 different countries. Approximately 89% were male and 11% were female.
Evidence seized during the investigations is expected to help identify additional suspects, locate children who may be at risk, and support further protective measures.
Interpol also warned that offenders are increasingly exploiting digital platforms to facilitate the sexual exploitation of children, coordinate abuse, and profit from illegal content.
