A bulk carrier was struck by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency on Saturday.
The projectile hit the vessel’s hull, but all crew members were reported safe. UKMTO said no assessment of the damage had yet been reported and that the potential environmental impact remained unknown.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in and around the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a key global route for oil and gas shipments.
