The billionaire raises concerns over the global decline in fertility rates as Singapore expands incentives to encourage childbirth
American billionaire Elon Musk has warned about the potential consequences of declining birth rates around the world, arguing that humanity is gradually moving toward extinction.
Musk made the remarks in response to a post on X discussing Singapore’s sweeping changes to its population policies as the country seeks to address a sharp decline in birth rates and encourage people to start families and have children.
Commenting on the post, Musk wrote: “Humans are gradually dissolving and becoming extinct.”
Singapore Tackles Its Birth Rate Crisis
Singaporean authorities are working on new financial and social incentives aimed at encouraging families to have more children. The measures include substantial financial support, improved access to housing and longer parental leave.
Media reports have indicated that the Singaporean government plans to provide families with benefits worth more than $55,000 per child under new support programs.
The measures come as Singapore faces persistently low fertility rates and an aging population, creating growing demographic and economic challenges for the country in the years ahead.
Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has stressed the importance of creating conditions that allow people who want to start families to do so, while emphasizing government efforts to make raising children easier and provide greater support for families.
Declining birth rates have become one of the major demographic challenges facing numerous countries, particularly across East Asia, where governments are increasingly introducing financial incentives and social policies aimed at encouraging childbirth and reversing the trend.
