Tensions between Russia and Ukraine intensified on Thursday evening as Russian drones targeted a Coca-Cola facility near the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, while Moscow reported intercepting Ukrainian drones heading toward the Russian capital.
Russian Drones Target Coca-Cola Facility Near Kyiv
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian drones struck a Coca-Cola plant in the Kyiv region, causing material damage but no reported injuries among employees.
Zelenskyy described the attack as a message directed at the United States, arguing that Moscow was aware that the facility belonged to an American company. He said the strike involved Shahed-type drones.
Andy Hunder, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine, confirmed that no employees were injured. He said the company was working with local authorities to assess the damage, while prioritizing employee safety and the security of the facility.
Four Killed in Strike on Russia’s Belgorod Region
On the Russian side, local authorities reported that at least four people were killed and three others injured in a Ukrainian strike on the border region of Belgorod.
Acting regional governor Alexander Shuvayev said the victims were traveling in an ambulance in the town of Shebekino, located about five kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
Belgorod has faced repeated attacks amid the ongoing Russian military operations in neighboring Ukraine’s Kharkiv region.
Moscow Reports Intercepting Ukrainian Drones
In Moscow, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Russian air-defense systems had destroyed four drones flying toward the capital. Emergency teams were deployed at locations where debris fell, according to the mayor.
Russia’s Defense Ministry had earlier reported intercepting hundreds of Ukrainian drones over several Russian regions, including the Moscow area, during the day.
Growing Attacks on Economic and Commercial Facilities
The latest developments come amid an intensifying campaign of drone and missile strikes, with economic, logistical and commercial facilities increasingly becoming targets.
Russia has previously reported strikes on warehouses linked to major retail chains, postal facilities and commercial sites in Ukraine, while Kyiv has stepped up drone attacks against targets inside Russian territory.
Moscow has also continued to intensify its aerial operations during the summer, while Ukraine faces pressure over its air-defense missile stocks and its ability to intercept incoming missiles and drones.
The Russia-Ukraine war continues amid sustained military escalation, raising concerns over the growing risk to civilian and economic infrastructure on both sides.
