Reuters reported that there was no information indicating any deaths or injuries among U.S. military personnel following Iranian missile strikes targeting an American military base in Jordan, in the latest escalation in the growing confrontation between Washington and Tehran.
According to sources familiar with the situation cited by Reuters, available information so far does not indicate that any U.S. service members were killed or wounded in the attack. The statement came after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it had carried out a strike against a U.S. Marine Corps facility in Jordan.
IRGC Claims U.S. Personnel Were Killed
The IRGC said on Tuesday evening that it had targeted Camp Titen, a U.S. Marine Corps facility located along the coast of the Gulf of Aqaba. The Iranian force claimed that a “large number” of U.S. personnel were killed and that military facilities and attack helicopters were destroyed.
The IRGC said the strike was carried out in retaliation for a U.S. attack on a residential building in the Sirik area of southern Iran, which Iranian sources said killed and wounded around 50 people.
According to the IRGC, the attack was part of the second wave of an operation dubbed “Punishment of the Aggressor”, using ballistic missiles. Tehran also vowed to continue what it described as a retaliatory campaign against the United States.
However, independent sources have not so far confirmed the Iranian claims regarding U.S. military casualties or the destruction of helicopters and military facilities.
The conflicting accounts come as military tensions between Iran and the United States continue to escalate across the region, raising concerns over the potential expansion of the confrontation and its impact on regional security.
