Iran is lying when it claims its attacks on the Gulf are aimed at US military bases, a senior Emirati official said on Wednesday, adding that Iranian strikes have targeted civilian infrastructure.
“The Iranian aggression lies when it claims to target American military bases in the Gulf; the number of missiles and drones fired reveals a different reality,” UAE presidential advisor Anwar Gargash wrote in a post on X.
“The attacks target civilian infrastructure and vital facilities with no regard for civilians and innocent people. We thank God for the effectiveness of our national capabilities in repelling these brutal attacks,” Gargash added.
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran that killed its supreme leader and triggered a war in the Middle East. Tehran has responded with drone and missile attacks across the region, including strikes that have hit neighboring Gulf countries that say they are neither involved in the war nor have allowed warring parties to launch attacks from their territory.
Since Iran’s attacks began, 262 ballistic missiles and roughly 1,500 drones have targeted the UAE, most of which were intercepted.
A total of six people were killed, mostly civilians, but also two Emirati troops who died when a helicopter malfunctioned.
Last weekend, in an interview with Abu Dhabi TV, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed said the UAE would emerge “stronger” from the Middle East war.
