The U.S. Embassy in Saudi Arabia has warned American citizens in the Kingdom of possible flight cancellations, airspace closures, and disruptions to travel and transportation, amid continued tensions and threats targeting airports and critical infrastructure.
Warning of Flight Cancellations and Airspace Closures
In a statement published on its website and official account on X, the U.S. Embassy said ongoing tensions in the Kingdom and threats directed at airports and airspace require American citizens to exercise the highest level of caution.
The embassy urged U.S. citizens to be prepared for the possibility of flight cancellations, airspace closures, and disruptions to travel, while advising travelers to check directly with airlines and airports for the latest status of their flights before heading to the airport.
Warning Against Travel Near the Yemen Border
The embassy also advised American citizens to avoid areas near the border with Yemen, noting that U.S. government employees are prohibited from traveling within 20 miles, or approximately 32 kilometers, of the border.
It added that travel to certain cities and areas within Saudi Arabia requires special authorization from the relevant authorities.
Escalating Military Tensions in Yemen
The U.S. warning comes amid renewed military clashes between Ansar Allah, commonly known as the Houthis, and forces aligned with Yemen’s internationally recognized government and backed by Saudi Arabia, following several years of relative calm.
According to the information provided, the Houthis have recently gained control of large areas along the western coast of the Red Sea and areas near the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Yemen’s internationally recognized authorities announced Monday that they had launched a military operation aimed at regaining control of the capital, Sanaa, from the Houthis, marking a new escalation that could further affect regional security and air travel.
The latest U.S. Embassy warning underscores growing concerns over the potential impact of the escalating regional tensions on civil aviation, passenger travel, and airspace operations across Saudi Arabia.
