Recent satellite imagery has revealed an acceleration in Iran’s efforts to rebuild the Taleghan 2 facility inside the Parchin military complex, following extensive damage caused by previous Israeli strikes.
A recent report indicated that reconstruction work is proceeding at an intensive pace, with extensive construction equipment operating at the site. Iran has also placed a cover over the fortified underground facility, obscuring part of the ongoing work from satellite imagery and aerial surveillance.
Intensive Activity at Taleghan 2
The satellite images show a range of construction equipment at the facility, including dump trucks, bulldozers, concrete pumps, concrete mixers and cranes, indicating that reconstruction efforts are continuing.
Repair and rehabilitation work reportedly began in June 2026, initially focusing on repairing the damage and sealing penetration points created by bunker-busting bombs that struck the site.
The area surrounding the facility has also undergone new concrete reinforcement work aimed at strengthening the site against the potential effects of future airstrikes.
Facility Targeted in Previous Israeli Strikes
Taleghan 2 was targeted in an Israeli strike in October 2024, after which Iran began efforts to rebuild and reinforce the facility.
In March 2026, the site was hit by another Israeli strike that destroyed the underground fortified facility, after Iran had reportedly rebuilt and redesigned it with additional protective measures.
Post-strike imagery showed large openings caused by bombs penetrating the facility’s protective structures, along with damage to the interior and surrounding infrastructure.
History Linked to Nuclear Weapons Research
Taleghan 2 has historically been associated with research and development activities linked to Iran’s AMAD program in the early 2000s, according to assessments concerning the site.
Previous reports have also indicated that the facility once contained a chamber designed for testing high explosives, along with equipment associated with experiments related to the development of nuclear weapons.
In recent years, reconstruction work, new concrete fortifications and the burial of the facility underground have raised questions over the activities Iran may seek to resume at the site.
Uncertainty Over the Purpose of the Reconstruction
The precise objectives behind Iran’s reconstruction of Taleghan 2 remain unclear, particularly because direct access to the site is not available.
The report said the continuation of reconstruction efforts despite the extensive destruction of the facility has raised questions about Iran’s future plans for the site, especially given its history of research and development activities associated with nuclear weapons.
Iran denies seeking to develop nuclear weapons and maintains that its nuclear program is peaceful in nature. Israel, meanwhile, continues to emphasize the need to prevent Iran from developing military nuclear capabilities.
