A Pakistani resident was killed and 11 other people were injured in an attack targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Sunday afternoon, October 11, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation announced in a supplementary statement issued on Monday, October 12.
The authority said the injured were immediately transported to hospital for medical treatment. The attack also caused material damage, which relevant authorities are still assessing.
New Attack Follows Earlier Incident That Killed 12 and Injured 309
The latest statement provided additional details about Sunday’s attack, which the authority described as a “heinous assault.”
The authority had previously reported that an attack targeting the airport on Saturday, October 10, left 12 people dead and 309 others injured, including several in critical condition. The fatalities included four Saudi nationals and eight residents of other nationalities, among them a U.S. citizen.
Following the attack, authorities announced the suspension of airport operations, while specialized teams began assessing the material damage and evaluating the incident’s consequences.
Repeated Attacks and US Statements on the Houthis
The latest incident followed two attacks on the same airport on Thursday, which reportedly killed three Saudi nationals, according to the General Authority of Civil Aviation. The Houthis claimed responsibility that day for a wave of attacks that included Riyadh Airport.
In Washington, CBS News reported that U.S. President Donald Trump said he was considering the possibility of the United States joining the fight against the Houthis.
The developments come amid rising regional security tensions, with continued attacks targeting critical infrastructure and Saudi airports, raising concerns about passenger safety and the continuity of air traffic.
