Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday that the US and Israel have embarked on operation to remove existential threat from the Iranian regime.
Netanyahu said that a joint US-Israeli attack “will create the conditions for the brave Iranian people to take their destiny into their own hands.”
“The time has come for all sections of the people in Iran… to remove the yoke of tyranny from (the regime) and bring a free and peace-loving Iran,” Netanyahu said in a statement.
Netanyahu added that Iran must not be allowed to gain nuclear arms and urged Israelis to “stand together.”
“This murderous terrorist regime must not be allowed to arm itself with nuclear weapons that would enable it to threaten all of humanity,” Netanyahu said in a video statement. “Together we will stand, together we will fight and together we will ensure the eternity of Israel,” he added.
For decades, the Israeli prime minister has cast Iran’s nuclear ambitions, its missile arsenal and its support for militant groups as an existential danger.
Netanyahu’s push for military action materialised during the 12-day war last June. He maintains that Israel will again act to prevent any resurgence of Iran’s attack capabilities.
In January, addressing the Iranian public directly, Netanyahu said he hoped “the Persian nation will soon be freed from the yoke of tyranny.” And this month, he warned that “if the ayatollahs make a mistake and attack us, they will experience a response they cannot even imagine.”
