US President Donald Trump said in radio remarks on Thursday evening that Iran’s military capabilities have been significantly weakened, claiming that Tehran still possesses drones but in “very limited” numbers compared with what it had five months ago.
Trump also said Iran’s ability to manufacture missiles has become “very limited,” while asserting that the United States had “already eliminated Iran and its leaders,” referring to the reported results of US military operations against Tehran.
The US president said it would currently be difficult for Iran to rebuild its military capabilities or accomplish anything significant.
“I had no choice but to hit Iran, and it is in bad shape right now,” Trump said.
Trump Blames Obama and Biden Over Iran’s Nuclear Program
Trump also accused former US presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden of allowing Iran to enrich uranium, criticizing their policies toward Tehran’s nuclear program.
The comments come as the Trump administration seeks to intensify economic pressure on Iran following the escalation of tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Trump Seeks to Secure Iran’s Enriched Uranium Stockpile
Trump is seeking to take control of Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium as part of efforts to reach a new agreement with Tehran.
The proposed deal would include tougher restrictions aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear program and replacing the 2015 nuclear agreement, from which the United States unilaterally withdrew in 2018 during Trump’s first term.
The administration has also warned countries and entities supporting Iran that they could face economic consequences as Washington expands its pressure campaign against Tehran.
