Yemen’s Houthis, who are aligned with Iran, have renewed their warning to airlines, airport employees and travelers against using King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, describing it as unsafe and calling it a “military target.”
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said in a post on the social media platform X: “The Yemeni Armed Forces renew their warning to all international, regional and domestic airlines, employees and travelers against traveling through King Khalid Airport in Riyadh, as it is unsafe because it is a military target for our forces.”
Saree added that the Saudi government would bear the consequences of operating the airport and any resulting repercussions. He stressed that the group’s forces would continue their operations toward the airport, warning that it “will never be safe.”
Late on Saturday, King Khalid International Airport announced that Terminal 1 would be designated for domestic flights, while Terminal 2 would serve international flights operated by national carriers, effective Sunday.
